Score!  Patrick Eaves and the Detroit Red Wings raise critical funds and awareness in support of the Michigan Humane Society

Red Wings forward Patrick Eaves and his dog, Reuben, appeared in a public service announcement on behalf of the Michigan Humane Society. In addition to helping homeless pets, Reuben had a great time playing on the ice while filming at “The Joe.”

Homeless pets across southeastern Michigan are putting their paws together for the Detroit Red Wings, who are big fans of our four-legged friends and have teamed up with the Michigan Humane Society to raise awareness and support for animals in need.

The Red Wings have a great history of supporting pet adoption and animal welfare issues; most recently, this was showcased in their flagship sponsorship of MHS’ 2010 Mega March for Animals, which took place in October at Hart Plaza.

“We’re happy to support the Michigan Humane Society, raising awareness and money to help MHS continue to provide the great services and programs that they are known for in our community,” says Christy Hammond, community relations coordinator for the Red Wings.

Red Wings forward Patrick Eaves took the lead role as team champion for the 2010 Mega March for Animals, raising more than $3,000 online and filming a public service announcement at Joe Louis Arena, along with his 130-pound Newfoundland, Reuben, to benefit MHS.

“It’s for a great cause. These animals need good homes, so hopefully this brings awareness to that,” said Eaves, after shooting the PSA with the help of WXYZ Channel 7.

Eaves and the Red Wings also helped sponsor an MHS raffle to raise additional funds. The raffle winner, Doug Bajor of Royal Oak, along with three of his friends, will have the opportunity to visit a Red Wings practice and meet Eaves at “The Joe.”

Helmets off to the Detroit Red Wings and Eaves for their overwhelming support of this year’s Mega March for Animals and MHS.  And GO WINGS!
