Donate Your Used Clothing and Shoes to Generate Support for Homeless Pets
Michigan Humane Society partnering with American Textile Recycling Services to help animals in need
With the arrival of Spring, many families are getting started on one of the season’s rites of passage: spring cleaning. Instead of throwing out those old clothes and shoes, why not donate them and help animals in need?
The Michigan Humane Society (MHS) has partnered with American Textile Recycling Services (ATRS) to help make Michigan a little bit greener, as well as make the future for homeless animals a little brighter!
When you donate used clothes and shoes at an ATRS/MHS recycling bin, ATRS will make a cash donation to MHS to help animals in need.
The funds raised from this collection initiative will help support many MHS programs serving animals in our communities.
ATRS currently has more than 60 collection bins at locations across the metro Detroit area, with dozens more to be added in the community over the coming months! Locations change periodically.
Donation Bin Locations:
A donation bin for clothing and shoes (only) is now available 24 hours a day in the parking area at the following Michigan Humane Society locations:
- MHS Rochester Hills Center for Animal Care, 3600 W. Auburn Road, Rochester Hills, 48309.
- MHS Berman Center for Animal Care, 900 N. Newburgh Road, Westland, 48185.
- To locate another ATRS/MHS bin near you, please call the local ATRS line at 313-378-3503. The national hotline is 866-900-9308.
Donations of used clothing and shoes are taken at these curbside collection locations and redirected from landfills. The Michigan Humane Society will receive monetary proceeds based on tonnage collected. ATRS removes more than 100,000 tons of textile waste from municipal waste streams every year.
For information on this clothing donation program or other ways you can support MHS, please call (248) 283-1000, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Thank you for making a difference - for animals and the environment!
