MHS Cruelty Hotline Tips Lead to Three Separate Animal Seizures in Detroit

Donate Today! For the Michigan Humane Society’s Cruelty Investigation team, each day brings the unexpected. But this fall, the unexpected included three neglected horse seizures in just over a month.

Two Beautiful Horses Need Your Help TodayIn early October, the MHS Cruelty Investigators found two geldings, Gizmo and Yoyo, neglected and severely emaciated in the backyard of a home in Detroit. They were immediately rescued and taken to a Detroit police facility to receive much-needed food and medical care.

A month later, the MHS Cruelty Hotline received two more tips about neglected horses. Responding to the first, in partnership with a number MHS Cruelty Investigators Rescue 14 Neglected Horsesof agencies including the Detroit Police Department, Detroit Animal Control, the DTE Theft Unit, and the Wayne County Prosecutors Office, MHS Cruelty Investigators seized 10 horses in poor health from a warehouse on Detroit’s west side. Just two days later, MHS was back in the field, rescuing two more severely emaciated horses from a residential property in Detroit.

Please donate to help these neglected animals and offer them hope.

MHS Cruelty Investigators Rescue 14 Neglected HorsesThe 12 horses rescued in November were transported to the International League for the Protection of Horses (ILPH) of Michigan. An MHS partner, ILPH will provide the daily care while MHS will cover the cost of housing, nourishing food, warm bedding and lifesaving medical care for each of the horses. Their recovery may take weeks or even months, and the cost of care is expected to reach into the thousands, if not tens of thousands of dollars.
