Youth Enrichment Classroom Visit Program

MHS' Youth Enrichment Program includes a presentation and/or a tour that teaches children about our organization, the many different programs we provide, and an interactive lesson that explains the importance of responsible pet care and respect for all animals.

We are pleased to offer our Youth Enrichment Program in your classroom or at one of our three adoption centers in Westland, Rochester Hills, or Sterling Heights Petco (with specific days/times available at each).

Request a Youth Enrichment Program for your classroom.

Student Fundraising and Craft Projects

Students often ask what they can do to help the animals in our care.  Your school may wish to hold a fundraiser, make a monetary donation, or do a craft project.  Details can be found at our website:

Career Day

For those interested in showcasing careers in animal welfare during an upcoming Career Day or Career Fair at your school, please complete the Youth Enrichment Program Request form.

Student Projects on Animal Welfare Topics

MHS encourages students to choose animal welfare topics for their school projects.  We welcome the opportunity to act as a resource for research papers, presentations, or speeches.  Students benefit from learning and can also help to educate others on topics such as pet adoption, pet overpopulation, animal cruelty investigation, responsible pet ownership, lost pets, laws to protect animals, or similar issues. For assistance, please call the MHS Community Relations Department at 248.283.1000, ext. 104 weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. We will make every effort to provide timely assistance; however, at least a one week notice to schedule a phone interview is requested. Depending on the requirements, additional notice may be needed.

Eagle Scout Projects

For Boy Scouts who would like to support the Michigan Humane Society through their Eagle Scout project – THANK YOU!  Please note the following to get started:

  • All requests must be made by the Scout (not a parent, etc.)
  • Requests should be e-mailed to CJ Bentley at
  • Once the request e-mail is received, an in-person meeting will be scheduled with the Scout and CJ
  • During that meeting we will discuss your ideas and how those ideas can meet the requirements/needs of our MHS animals and the communities we serve
  • You are then able to put together a proposal which can be submitted via e-mail back to CJ
  • You and CJ will discuss the proposal (via phone or in person)
  • The proposal is approved
  • You are on your way!

Please note that this process can take close to one month to work through – not including completing the project itself. PLEASE do not wait until the last minute.

Programs for Non-School Groups

For non-school groups of 10 or more children or adult groups wishing to have a tour or presentation, please complete the Youth Enrichment Program Request form
